Lemongrass (cymbopogon citratus), also known as barbed wire grass, silky heads, oily heads, Cochin grass, Malabar grass, citronella grass or fever grass, is a genus of Asian, African, Australian and tropical island plants in the grass family. Commonly cultivated, cymbopogon is used as culinary and medicinal herbs because of their citrusy scent which resembles that of lemons. Lemongrass and its oils are believed to possess therapeutic properties.
In India, lemongrass is used as a medicinal herb and in perfumes. It is also consumed as a tea for anxiety in Brazilian folk medicine.
